A default FOV has been already set by the Onit Support team! Anyway the FOV is also function of the specific environment the camera will have to work in. So we still invite you to read the content below

These are the 2 steps to set the best Field Of View (FOV) for your camera:
Step 1 – Verify the FOV range recommended for your camera
The first step is to look at the following table and verify which are the recommended FOV values for the most common cameras:
Monocular | |||
---|---|---|---|
Camera | Dragonfly Kit USB camera + 180° lens | Dragonfly Kit USB camera + 170° lens | USB Camera (no fisheye) |
Recommended FOV | between 70° and 130° | between 70° and 90° | 0° |
Step 2 – Set the best FOV for your camera
The second step is to find the best FOV for your camera. The best FOV is the FOV that:
- allows to see as much of the fixed elements of the environment as possible.
To find the best FOV you need to test the FOV values within the range shown in the table above starting from the lowest value. To do so:
- Click on the Three lines button in the top menu and click on Camera settings.
- Set the first Field of View value that you want to test.
- Click on Preview before save and look at the Video preview. If:
- There are no black arcs in any of the 4 sides of the frame -> then it means that the selected FOV is good but can be potentially increased a bit based on the characteristic of your environment (please read this article).
- There are black arcs slightly seen in the upper and lower side of the frame -> then the selected FOV is good but can be potentially decreased or increased a bit based on the characteristic of your environment (please read this article).
- There are black arcs that cover a LOT of the frame -> then the selected FOV is NOT good and you need to decrease it. Please decrease it by 10° and test the new FOV.
- If you are satisfied with the Field of View chosen then click on the green SAVE button.
Aren’t sure about the the best FOV value for your specific environment?
Please look at this article with some recommendations. If you are still not sure about the FOV value please send us the image of the video preview and your calibration file and we will let you know right away if the FOV value is correct.
