Dragonfly is NOT meant to be used outdoor with the camera pointed forward. Anyway, if you still want to give it a try we have to warn you that it could be challenging to use it outdoors because the performances will be affected by several factors like:

• The lightning conditions (e.g. direct sun can block the lens from detecting the features).
• The presence of moving objects that are more common outdoors than indoors (e.g. grass and trees moved by the wind, moving clouds, moving cars, people passing by…).
• Objects that are farther than the range allowed by the camera baseline can’t be used as source of features.
• The weather conditions (e.g. drops of rain on the camera lens make the image distorted).

All the above factors (most of them out of direct control) can affect the mapping process, the geo-referencing process and in the end the reliability and the overall results provided by Dragonfly.

We suggest you to try Dragonfly outdoors ONLY when:

• the amount of sky visible inside the frame is limited.
• the amount of vegetation and other moving objects is limited.
• there are walls/objects visible on the right and left sides of the frame. Completely open spaces won’t produce good results.
• the weather conditions are good (e.g. no rain, no fog, no snow, no strong winds).
